Sprint HTC Evo 4G Review∞
Walt Mossberg reviews the HTC Evo, a new 4G phone on Sprint, although it’s more of a review of Sprint’s 4G service than the phone itself.
In short: 4G is a pretty decent amount faster than 3G, but be prepared to pay with your battery life.
Sprint 2010 line-up leaked, new Palm device coming?∞
Looks like Phone Arena has received an anonymous tip on the upcoming Sprint phone line-up. The line up, pictured above, includes a new WiMax Android phone from HTC.
The tipster also said that there was a possibility of Sprint launching a new Palm device. The device, known as the C40, isn’t pictured in the line-up but it has been rumored before.
I am pulling for Sprint to make something big happen. They are facing some stiff competition with Verizon launching the Nexus One and Palm Pre Plus soon.
Nonetheless, 2010 should be a huge year for smartphone users.
For those of you keeping track, the Palm 100 and Palm 120 listed in the screenshot are the Pre and Pixi, respectively. My money goes on the third device replacing the Treo, which can still be found on Palm’s website (if you know where to look) but mysteriously vanished from their homepage to be replaced by “Accessories”.
Feds 'Pinged' Sprint GPS Data 8 Million Times Over A Year∞
Sprint defends themselves, of course, but it’s still pretty unsettling. They actually have a web interface SPECIFICALLY for law enforcement to ping users’ GPS.
Slightly comforting are the limits imposed on when law enforcement can request user data.
There are four circumstances under which law enforcement agents can use the Sprint website and obtain GPS data: 1) under the authority of a court order; 2) to track the location of a customer who has made a 911 call; 3) in an emergency situation, such as tracking someone lost in the wilderness or trying to locate an abducted child or hostage; 4) with a customer’s consent.
On the other hand, a Sprint representative had this to say about the web interface:
So the tool has just really caught on fire with law enforcement. They also love that it is extremely inexpensive to operate and easy.
Yeah, that doesn’t make me feel all that great.
Verizon Opposes Sprint's "Most Dependable" Claim∞
With all the grief AT&T is giving them over the there’s a map for that
ads, you’d think they wouldn’t be so eager to give Sprint grief.
