IE8 Still Failing PNG Alpha

Come on, Microsoft.  You are the only major browser-maker without good support for alpha channels in PNGs.  It has been this way for years.  What’s the holdup?

One does wonder what Courier—Microsoft’s next-generation tablet computing experience—will be when it gets introduced? They’ve already used up surface, tablet and slate. They’re running out of flat things.

Engadget Live from Microsoft's CES Keynote

There’s some pretty cool stuff there.  I’m really excited to play around with Project Natal once it gets released.

Of course, the two keynotes I’m really excited about this month are Palm’s (tomorrow) and Apple’s (the 26th or the 27th).

Verizon Forces Bing Search

An update by Verizon makes it so that the browser search bar on the Blackberry Storm 2 and “other devices” can only use Microsoft Bing.  Pretty convenient considering that they just signed a $500 million “search and ad deal” at the beginning of this year.  Apparently they don’t care about the inconvenience or disrespect to their users (actually, nevermind—they’ve never cared about their users).

Microsoft Dealing With The Devil Himself!

Okay, I lied.  It’s only Rupert Murdoch.  But it’s still kind of accurate, right?

In short, Microsoft is in discussions to pay News Corp to remove their sites from Google’s index.  Rupert Murdoch has been complaining for a while that Google has been stealing his content by indexing his sites, so it’s nice that he might finally put his money where his mouth is.

My prediction?  If this deal goes through, the News Corp sites will leave Google’s index, most people won’t notice or care, and Microsoft and News Corp will both lose out.
